Home Sweet Home
~Home Sweet Home~
And now for something [really] completely different, this is my first real-time 3D Flash program. It extends my panorama viewer to fully interactive 3D view - just pan around with the mouse! Up/down keys control music volume.
The subject here is this: so much conflict in this world because of money, race, religion and so on, but when we look at this cloudy little blue ball, all those differences look so small and insignificant.
To add the 3D part into my panorama viewer, I used a free Flash library called Away3D and code based on a tutorial by Jens C Brynildsen. The tutorial was meant for the Flash authoring tool, but since I use pure ActionScript instead, following the tutorial was far from trivial - I had to convert the code to work without Flash CS.
The final effect is quite nice, with Earth illuminated by the Sun, leaving the dark side marked with flickering lights from the big cities under the moving clouds. Pan around with the mouse to see the sunny side too. :)
Flash has no 3D acceleration whatsoever, so I had to do some extra work to make the 3D animation lighter. In my computer, it never used more then 12% CPU after code optimization, so I can assume it should run fine in slower computers.
Hope you like it and thanks for coming by!
