Jerry is trying to imitate legendary William Tell who managed to split the apple on his son's head with a single bolt from his crossbow. I really don't know how he managed to convince Tom to stay still and take part in this silly and dangerous game. But there they are, doing famous apple-shooting in the middle of the night, near the cemetery. Each time Jerry hits the apple, he levels up and the distance rises. They start with 20 ft, which is about 6 meters, and each level adds up 5 more feet. Not every miss is fatal, but let's just say that aiming too low would put Tom out of the game.
