Portland’s central city gets whiter

game

The data from the main version is from 1990.

An analysis by The Oregonian reveals a surprising trend: As the state and metro area have grown more diverse, Portland’s central city has become whiter. A two-story package uses 2010 Census data, documents and interviews to show that not only have nearly 10,000 people of color left the inner city since 2000, but city policies and actions played a role in the displacement. These interactive maps allow you to track population changes by race across Multnomah, Washington and Clackamas counties from 1990 to 2010. Roll over a census tract to see the full racial breakdown of the tract, and zoom out to see the whole three-county metro area.
