History & Heritage
In 1951, the British Armed Services set up the Britannia Club as a recreational outlet primarily for its members. Allied troops often utilized the facilities, and the Club soon became a popular social gathering venue for both its members and their allied counterparts. It provided opportunities for soldiers from diverse backgrounds and nationalities to interact and share experiences.
In 1971, The Club was handed back to the Singapore government, and the SAF Non-Commissioned Officers (NCO) Club was born. It was also during this period that the Club acquired a stronger family orientation and its activities often centred on its members and their families. The Club also housed the SAF Enterprise (SAFE) Superstore that offered affordable merchandise and payment schemes for the NCOs.
With the restructuring of the NCO Corp in 1994, the Club was renamed the SAF Warrant Officers and Specialists Club. Owing to the expansion of the membership base and the allocation of land for redevelopment, the Club was earmarked for relocation to a new premise.
The present SAF Warrant Officers & Specialists Club - THE CHEVRONS, was officially opened on 8 February 2002. With a better equipped clubhouse, the Club is poised to enhance its services by providing quality recreation and entertainment for its members and their families.
